10 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to cook
Spices and herbs in kit: Basmati rice, cumin seeds, ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric, cloves, green cardamons, black cardamom, Bay leaf, cinnamon, black pepper and cayenne – are blended to produce a flavoursome rice which takes 10 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to cook.
Step-by-step preparation and cooking instructions:
Step 1: Wash sachet 1 (the rice) and drain
Step 2: Dice the potato, carrot and green beans into 10mm pieces
Step 3: Peel and grate the ginger
Step 4: Chop the green chilli, crush the garlic and finely chop the fresh coriander leaves
Step 1: Heat the oil in a heavy pot over a medium heat. When hot put in sachet 2. Let it sizzle for 5-6 seconds.
Step 2: Put in the potato, carrots and the green beans, stir and saute for a minute or two.
Step 3: Turn heat to medium low, add the drained rice (sachet 1), salt and sachet 3, chopped green chilli, fresh coriander, chopped garlic and grated ginger. Stir and saute the rice for 2-3mins and make sure all the rice grains are coated with the oil.
Step 4: Add 500ml of warm water and bring to boil. Cover very tightly and turn the heat to very, very low and cook for 20 minutes.
Step 5: Turn off the heat and leave tightly covered for further 10mins.
Step 6:Use a fork to fluff the rice, taste for seasoning, garnish with finely coriander leaves and serve.
Essential additional ingredients (Shopping List):
- 120g Potato
- 50g Medium size carrots
- 50g Fresh green beans
- 1 Green chilli (remove seeds for milder taste)
- 1.5cm2 Fresh ginger
- 1 Garlic clove
- 2 tbs of fresh coriander
- 4-5 tbs spoon of unflavoured oil
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
