  • Peel and crush the garlic
  • Roughly chop the coriander leaves
  • Leave the chillies whole

Cooking Instructions

  • In a large heavy saucepan add 350ml of water, the contents of sachet 1, sachet 3, onions and chillies. Bring to the boil and simmer slowly until the lentils are soft (about 35 minutes), adding a little more water if it gets dry.
  • Carefully remove and set aside the chillies from the pan.
  • Break up the lentils roughly with a potato masher.
  • Add the salt and chopped tomatoes mixing well.
  • Return the chillies to the pan and bring back to a gentle simmer and cook to a thick sauce for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.
  • Warm the oil in a small saucepan over a medium heat and carefully add the garlic and the contents of sachet 2 and cook until the garlic browns.
  • Pour the oil and spices into the lentil pan and cover.
  • After 5 mins, stir the lentil mixture well. Taste and season to suit. Garnish with the coriander leaves.

This is so simple to make and tastes really good. The kit has the lentils in it, making the whole procedure even more simple. My previous untutored attempt at curry and lentils ended in a flavourless brown sludge. There were plenty of leftovers (which no-one ate).

Either I’ve got magically better at making Dahl, or this kit is really, really, REALLY good. Loads of interesting and varied flavours, great texture and happy munching all round.

Buy this. You will be really happy that you did.
